Here is some helpful information for a pleasant stay in Roma del Mar:

Chris and Janet Kiley telephones: 850-837-0011 cell: 850-797-6031
Water
- The water is fine for drinking; the water and ice from your refrigerator is filtered. We have our own well and there has never been any problems.
Security
- Nightguards are here from 5pm to 5am. They walk around and check on various houses with their flashlights during the night.
- The gate at back entrance is locked after 9pm.
- Keep your house locked when you are not there. When you leave, please put your valuables and passports into the safe. Carrying a copy of your passport is enough to move around in Costa Rica.
- To turn off the Alarm System of the villa, press the 4-digit code. If the panel is still beeping, press the # sign. To set the alarm, be sure to close all windows and doors, stand still at the panel (until the red light goes off) and press the 4-digit code. At that point, you have 30 seconds to leave the villa and lock the door.
- Leave some lights on in your house during the evening and night hours (all villas have outside automatic lights).
Pool service
- Our manager Ebi cleans the pools on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings. Be sure to let us know if there is anything wrong with the pool or pool pump.
Waste management
- Please place your waste in the large blue plastic container at the main entrance of Roma del Mar.
Energy usage
- Costa Rica’s energy production is environmentally friendly. We do not have nuclear electricity production, but use hydroelectric, thermal, geothermal and wind power instead. PLEASE help the environment by not wasting energy!!
- Please turn your AC on only when you really need it. With open windows and doors, the breezes can be quite nice.
- Please use the washing machine, dryer, or dishwasher only when you have a full load.
- Turn off the hot water tank when you will be gone for a long period of time.
- A few lights can be left on in the evening as mentioned in the security section.
- Some kitchen stoves run on gas. If the gas runs out, you will need to exchange the empty gas tank with a filled one at the Jicaral supermarket. Let Lars or Jenny know, and they can help you with the exchange.
Driving in Roma del Mar
- Please use an appropriate speed as monkeys can get in your way!
Insects
- Please remember we are in the jungle!! You might come across some insects such as spiders or scorpions. A bite of a scorpion will not kill you; it is similar to a wasp bite, so do not panic!!! It’s a good idea to shake out your clothing, shoes, and towels before you use them.
Transportation
- Ferry trips
- Puntarenas to Playa Naranjo : 6:30am, 10am, 2:30pm, 7:30pm
- Playa Naranjo to Puntarenas : 8am, 12:30 noon, 5:30pm, 9pm

In Jicaral, there is a supermarket, bank/ ATM, butchers, bakery (Tony @“Musmanni”), farmers market on Friday mornings where you can get fresh fruits and vegetables and fresh chicken.
